By the age of five, Emily-Kate already knew she was an artist. While her family performed at festivals, she began creating and selling caricatures, signing her work with the confidence of someone who understood early that art could connect people, tell stories, and create lasting memories. That sense of purpose has remained central to her creative journey.
Emily-Kate earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, followed by master’s degrees in Education and Business. This rare combination of fine art, teaching, curriculum design, and organizational leadership allows her to create work that is both emotionally powerful and thoughtfully structured. Her practice bridges visual art, education, community engagement, and personal storytelling.
As one of the 30 original members of Vox Populi Gallery in Philadelphia, Emily-Kate contributed to one of the city’s important artist-led creative spaces and helped support the cultural energy that shaped Philadelphia’s First Friday arts movement. Over more than 35 years, she has exhibited her work, developed arts programming, taught students of all ages, and authored three children’s books. After relocating to Las Vegas, she built an inclusive art program that served children, adults, and community members across generations.
Following her breast cancer diagnosis, Emily-Kate turned a life-altering experience into a deeper creative mission. She filled journals and sketchbooks with drawings, reflections, and visual records of survival, using art as a way to process fear, strength, healing, and transformation. That experience continues to influence her work today, giving her art a raw honesty and emotional depth that speaks to resilience, identity, and the human need to create meaning from hardship.
Emily-Kate’s art reflects a lifetime of performance, education, cultural memory, and fearless creative exploration. Her work is deeply personal, yet widely relatable, connecting viewers to themes of family, survival, imagination, and community. To invest in Emily-Kate Niskey’s art is to invest in proven artistic vision, authentic storytelling, and a body of work grounded in both lived experience and lasting cultural impact.
“Art taught me that even the hardest chapters of our lives can become color, movement, and meaning when we are brave enough to create from them.”
